Brothers & Sisters share and enjoy the bond of love between them throughout the year, but Rakshabhandan is the day when they get an opportunity to express their tender love & feelings towards each other. The day is an opportunity for them to commemorate their loving meories, loyalty, closeness, trust and friendship.
On the holy day of Rakshabhandan the sisters tie a sacred piece of thread (known as a Rakhi or Raksha-Sutra) on the wrist of their brothers. The Festival of Rakhi also includes a tradition of offering gifts to sisters by the brothers.
